
Dr. Mohamad Al-Ississ
Dr. Mohamad Al-Ississ is a Senator of Jordan, the former Minister of Finance (2019-2024), and a former Special Advisor and Economic Advisor to His Majesty King Abdullah II. A Harvard-trained economist, he is known for leading Jordan’s fiscal reforms, IMF negotiations, and credit rating upgrade while guiding the country through major economic crises.
During his tenure as Finance Minister, he oversaw Jordan's fiscal policy through the COVID-19 pandemic, leading the country's fiscal response. Under his leadership, Jordan received its first ratings upgrade in 21 years from S&P and Moody's. He successfully executed three Eurobond issuances worth $3.7 billion, negotiated two IMF Extended Fund Facility Programs, and developed five national budgets.
Prior to the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Al-Ississ served as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Minister of State for Economic Affairs. He also served as Special Advisor and Economic Advisor to His Majesty King Abdullah II, helping shape the country's economic reforms and investment initiatives.
His career spans academia and the private sector as well. He was a tenured professor and Associate Dean at the American University in Cairo and a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School. His professional experience includes management consulting with The Boston Consulting Group and managing USAID projects.
His research focuses on the impact of beliefs on financial markets, investigating the cross-border impact of political violence and religious experience on markets, and the effect of insurance on trust in the Middle East.
